What is ABPM?

Ambulatory Blood Pressure Monitoring (ABPM) is a technique used to measure blood pressure continuously over a 24-hour period as patients go about their normal activities. This method provides a more accurate and comprehensive assessment of blood pressure compared to single, in-office measurements. The device consists of a cuff worn on the upper arm, connected to a small, portable monitor that records readings at regular intervals, even during sleep.

ABPM is particularly valuable in diagnosing conditions like white coat hypertension, where patients’ blood pressure spikes in clinical settings, and masked hypertension, where high blood pressure is not detected during regular checkups. It also helps evaluate the effectiveness of blood pressure medications and detect patterns of blood pressure variability, such as nocturnal hypertension, which can increase the risk of cardiovascular events.

The continuous monitoring offers detailed insights into how a patient’s blood pressure fluctuates throughout the day and night. This allows doctors to better tailor treatment plans, reduce cardiovascular risk, and manage conditions like hypertension more effectively. Patients benefit from the convenience of the device, as they can maintain their normal routines while the monitor collects data.

ABPM is an important tool for understanding blood pressure behavior in real-life settings, leading to more accurate diagnoses and better long-term health outcomes.

What is Sleep Study?

A sleep study, also known as polysomnography, is a diagnostic test used to assess and diagnose sleep disorders. This non-invasive test monitors various body functions during sleep, including brain activity (EEG), eye movements, muscle activity, heart rate, oxygen levels, and breathing patterns. The goal is to identify abnormalities that may indicate conditions such as sleep apnea, insomnia, restless legs syndrome, narcolepsy, and other sleep-related problems.

Sleep studies are typically conducted in a specialized sleep lab, but at-home sleep tests are also available for certain conditions, like obstructive sleep apnea. During the test, sensors are placed on the body to collect data while the patient sleeps, without causing discomfort or disrupting sleep. The results help doctors understand the patient’s sleep architecture, including how long they spend in different sleep stages, and whether there are disruptions due to breathing problems or abnormal limb movements.

One of the most common disorders diagnosed through a sleep study is sleep apnea, a condition where a person’s breathing repeatedly stops and starts during sleep. Sleep studies are also used to diagnose issues like REM sleep behavior disorder, where patients act out their dreams, or periodic limb movement disorder, which involves involuntary movements during sleep.

The comprehensive data collected from a sleep study allows healthcare professionals to develop personalized treatment plans to improve sleep quality and overall health. It is a critical tool for understanding sleep health and addressing issues that may negatively affect daily life.

What is Holter Monitoring?

Holter monitoring is a valuable tool in diagnosing heart conditions by providing continuous ECG recordings over 24-48 hours or longer. The wearable device tracks heart rhythms as patients go about their daily activities, offering detailed data that helps detect issues like arrhythmias that may not show up in short ECG tests. It's a key part of modern cardiac care, ensuring that intermittent heart issues are caught early and treated effectively.

There are several companies in the Indian Market and Top 3 are these
